Title: Birthday
Author: Vralenalien
Setting: Mass Effect Universe
Timeline: After Mass Effect 3
Pairing: Anwyn Shepard and Liara T’Soni

Anwyn was ready to jump out of her skin. Every year Liara arranged something for her birthday and every year Anwyn tried to find out what it was. She never could find out exactly what Liara was planning, but she was able to get at least some information.
But this year she was completely clueless of what her bondmate was planning and it was already her birthday. There had not been weird assignments from the Council to get her away somewhere where Liara was waiting or to get her away so Liara could arrange something in their home at Thessia while Anwyn was away.
“Dad?” Voice asked behind her, startling her and she jumped up from the chair. When she turned around she found Faelan staring at her curiously, “Why are you so jumpy?” Faelan asked.
“It’s nothing little sparrow,” Anwyn said, “Was there something you needed?”
“I was just wondering if you knew where everyone are,” Faelan replied, “I can’t find twins from anywhere and we were supposed to go shopping. Even Riven is missing and Leanna just ordered me to go away.”
“And your mother?” Anwyn asked. She was starting to get suspicious.
“I haven’t seen her today,” Faelan replied.
“Hmm,” Anwyn said and stood up, “Would you be up for some detective work, little sparrow?” She asked then.
“Can I get a pistol?” Faelan asked.
“No,” Anwyn shook her head, “But you can use your mother’s computer terminal.” She promised when Faelan started to sulk.
“The big one?” Faelan’s eyes lit up from the excitement.
“The big one,” Anwyn nodded and smiled at her daughter. She knew that Liara would be less than happy about that. She had explicitly forbid everyone, specially Anwyn, to touch that, after Anwyn had installed a game in it and let the kids play there. It had taken over a day before Liara got the computer working again.

When they got down to the computer room door Anwyn was not surprised that it was locked, “Now, you will never do anything like this,” She said to Faelan after she’d hacked the door.
“Unless I really need to,” Faelan said.
“That’s my girl,” Anwyn grinned, “See if you can find your mother’s schedule for today,” She then said and pointed at the terminal.
“You sure, it’s okay for me to use that?” Faelan hesitated, “I mean, mother was really angry after last time.”
“Don’t worry, she will not be angry at you,” Anwyn said.
“I don’t want her to be angry at you either,” Faelan said, but she went to the terminal and turned it on. It didn’t take long for her to find Liara’s calendar for the day, “It says here that mother is out shopping for whole morning with Riven,” Faelan said.
“Does it say anything what she’s planning on doing at the evening?” Anwyn wanted to know.
“No,” Faelan replied and Anwyn cursed.
“You did not hear me say any those things, is that clear?” Anwyn said to Faelan after she stopped cursing.
“Of course,” Faelan grinned.
“What’s that?” Anwyn asked and pointed at the little mark on the calendar just under where Liara had put her shopping trip, “Magnify it,” Faelan did as instructed and that small insignificant dot crew into a address, “Sometimes your mother is too clever for her own good,” Anwyn said triumphantly. That address was for their favorite restaurant.
“What does it mean?” Faelan asked.
“It means that we are going to go do some scouting,” Anwyn said.
“Scouting?” Faelan asked.
“You can think of it as spying,” Anwyn said, “We do need to change for the better clothes though or they won’t let us in.”
“I can wear those better clothes we bought?” Faelan asked enthusiastically.
“Your mother might strangle me for letting you do that, but sure,” Anwyn said. She already was going to make Liara mad by spying her from her own intelligence network so letting Faelan use her best clothes didn’t bother her and it did make Faelan happy.
Faelan got up and almost ran out of the room and to the upstairs.

“Ah, Commander Shepard,” The restaurant porter said when they approached, “And is this one of your girls?”
“She is,” Anwyn nodded, “We would like a table, but not the usual one,” She then explained.
“Understood,” The porter said and motioned another member of the staff to them, “Mira will show you to your table.”
“Follow me, Commander,” Mira said and motioned them to follow her, “Let me know when you are ready to order,” Mira said when they were sitting.
“I will, thank you,” Anwyn said and Mira left them sitting there.
“Why are we here?” Faelan wanted to know, “There was no time on the calendar so how do you know we are here at the right time?”
“I know,” Anwyn replied, “In about half an hour your mother will be here and we see what she’s up to.”
“Does this have something to do with your birthday, dad?” Faelan asked curiously.
“Perhaps,” Anwyn replied, “We could order some ice cream while we wait,” She then said, hoping to distract Faelan from asking too many questions.
“Chocolate?” Faelan asked.
“You can even get double chocolate if you want,” Anwyn replied and her daughters face lit up.
***
Half an hour and two chocolate ice creams later Anwyn saw Liara entering the restaurant. She had Riven, the twins Yan and Tovis and also Leanna with her. They went straight to the back rooms.
“Didn’t you say that Leanna was at home?” Anwyn asked.
“Hmmp hrrmps,” Faelan tried to speak with her mouth full of ice cream.
“Swallow first, then speak,” Anwyn chuckled.
Faelan swallowed and then made faces as the cold ice cream made it’s way down her throat, “Gah... cold,” She said finally.
“Nobody told you to swallow the whole thing in one gulp,” Anwyn rolled her eyes.
“But... it’s so good,” Faelan said, “Yes, Leanna was home and told me to go away,” She then replied to her fathers question.
“And look who's coming in now,” Anwyn mused when she saw Aethyta enter the restaurant. Like Liara before she walked straight to the back rooms.
“What do you think is back there?” Faelan whispered, “Should we sneak in and take a look?” She continued before Anwyn had time to reply.
“Let’s wait for a bit before we do that,” Anwyn said, she was fully enjoying this spy thing and so was Faelan from the looks of it.
“To see if someone else we know comes in?” Faelan whispered and Anwyn nodded, “This is fun,” She exclaimed then and Anwyn had to smile at her enthusiasm that was so much like her own.
They waited for about fifteen minutes and saw few more of their friends come in and going straight to the back rooms.
“Can we go already?” Faelan asked, “I want to see what’s happening there.”
“I guess we could go,” Anwyn replied and stood up, “Follow me and try not to make loud noises.”
“Like when we play commandos at the backyard?” Faelan asked and Anwyn nodded.
“Is everything alright, Commander?” Mira asked when they walked past her.
“Everything is fine, thank you,” Anwyn said, “We are just going at the back.”
“I am afraid you can’t do that,” Mira said, “There is private meeting going on there.”
Anwyn thought about that for a moment, “Do I have to invoke my Spectre authority to get past you?” She asked then.
“No... no, that won’t be necessary;” Mira said and stepped aside, “The meeting is at the room two,” She added, “Room three connects to that one.”
“Thank you,” Anwyn said and continued through the doors and to the backroom area.
She of course already knew the layout of the place so finding room two and three was not a problem.
“Here, dad,” Faelan said and pointed at the door that had number three in it.
“Good, but we are not going to that one,” Anwyn said, “You mother would have paid the staff here to deceive me in case I might stumble here,” She explained to Faelan who looked confused.
“How do you know where to go then?” Faelan asked.
“Here,” Anwyn replied and pointed at the door one and then opened it slowly. She motioned Faelan to move in first and then she closed the door.
“Try to find the light switch,” She whispered to Faelan and then she tensed. Her combat instincts kicked in immediately, but before she had time to even warn Faelan the lights came on and...
“SURPRISE!” Came a loud yell from all her friends.
Liara stood in the middle of the room under the banner that said ‘Happy Birthday, Anwyn Shepard!’ and gave Anwyn an amused smile before she came to her and pulled her into a kiss, “Happy Birthday, my love,” She said.
“How?” Was only thing she could get out.
“I had very skilled helpers,” Liara said, “Kids were a really big help and Faelan, she performed brilliantly,”
“You too?” Anwyn turned to look at Faelan, “And I even bought you ice cream.”
“I am feeling really bad about that,” Faelan grinned and gave her father a big hug.
“I’m sure you are,” Anwyn snorted and gave a kiss to Faelan’s forehead.
After everyone had congratulated Anwyn they sat on the table and she blew out the candles from the cake.
Sometime later when they had finished first pieces of the cake, Liara leaned closer to Anwyn, “You know,” She whispered into Anwyn’s ear, “My father gave me the keys to her summer house and promised to watch the kids for couple of days,” She said and her breath send shivers through Anwyn’s body, “If you want to spend time alone with me that is,” She added and her lips brushed Anwyn’s earlope, “I can return the keys if you want to stay at home instead.”
“Don’t you dare,” Anwyn exclaimed loudly, making everyone look at her, “I mean... I would prefer if you did not return them,” She muttered and felt her face get all flushed.
“I thought so,” Liara grinned at her and then she winked at Aethyta who grinned at Anwyn making her blush deepen.
Anwyn lifted her eyes to Liara’s, “I love you, Liara,”
“I love you too, Anny,” Liara said before she pulled Anwyn into a kiss.

ME: Intercept 1
There were so many machines in the room that their soft beeping drowned out the breathing of the patient they were monitoring. Commander Lilliana Shepard, hero of the galaxy, the one who enabled them to win the war and drive back the Reapers, lay in the center of them all amidst a tangle of wires.
Her mother stood at the foot of her bed, her hand resting on the edge as she watched the gentle rise and fall of her daughter's chest. It was the only sign that she was still alive. Admiral Hannah Shepard knew that the machines around her would be able to tell her the same, but she didn't know what the various readouts meant and quite frankly sh

Mass Effect 3: Aftermath
Part 1
------
Three weeks after the Battle of Earth.

Faint voices broke through the darkness.
"Liara, he is awake," said one. The last time I heard that voice I come back from the dead. Had she brought me back again?
Someone squeezed my hand. Warmth tingled through the fingertips.
"It's alright Shepard, I'm here, just go back sleep."
"Liaraaa...."
Moments later my eyes snapped open. It took a second for the world to come into focus. Liara hummed a song as she arranged a bouquet of flowers to my right.
"Good morning!" she said. She bent down and kissed my forehead. "You had us worried for a bit there. Miranda went to talk to t

Haha, this was hilarious. It was pretty obvious that Liara had planned on Shepard snooping, but that their daughter was also part of the plot, that came as a surprise.
Faelan's too smart - "Now, you will never do anything like this,” she said to Faelan after she’d hacked the door. “Unless I really need to,” Faelan said.
So how many children do they have now? Falere, the twins... Riven as well? And Leanna?
